Birth center sustainability in the United States is a multifaceted challenge that requires a comprehensive approach to ensure the continued availability of holistic and personalized maternity care options. There remains a significant issue of low reimbursement rates, often falling below the actual cost of delivering essential services. With reimbursement rates sometimes less than half (our lowest insurance payer reimburses less than 33% of the incurred expenses), the birth center encounters financial strain that jeopardizes its ability to maintain access to out-of-hospital births.
